I was having a conversation with a friend the other day about cliches, maxims and other writing traps I'm always trying to avoid when my companion pointed out most of the ones I was referencing come from Shakespeare, George Bernard Shaw, Mark Twain or Jesus. There's "blessed are the poor" and "the lady doth protest too much" and "I have never let schooling interfere with my education." Also, from Shaw: "sincerity is everything, once you can fake that the rest is easy." We don't know if Vavon205 is faking it or not in his response to our QOTD, but if he is the rest is easy.
My little white 1988 Peugeot 205 Rallye 1.3. Black seats and red belts. This little pocket rocket was the car equivalent of Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde.
It had a close-ratio 5-speed gearbox coupled to a 1300 engine with 2 (two) double-barrel carburetors pumping out 103 bhp at 6800 rpm. I would rev the living daylights out of it, untill the limiter would cut it out at 7200 rpm.
An absolute pain in the ass in town, lousy idle, no real power under 3500 rpm. and very poor mpg! And boy did that short-gearing cause a lot of boom on the motorway!
But on the winding and twisting mountain roads in France, it would get hooned big time... The little engine screaming with delight, begging for more revs. Tyres squeeling, lift-off oversteer & speed. The excitement, I was Ari Vatanen!
My friends adored it. I loved it 50% of the time and hated it the rest of the time. Finally traded it in for a normal Peugeot 206...
I've missed it ever since...
