While Mark Fields battled his way through the ranks at FoMoCo to head the automaker's North American division, young Willie Clay is still looking to poach some outside talent. When hotshot Chrysler execs Dieter Zetsche and Wolfgang Bernhard went resolutely Deutsch on American automakers' asses, Ford went after Carlos Ghosn, the man dispatched by Renault to lift Nissan's flagging fortunes. And lift them he did, taking the Japanese giant from limp to full sprint in record time. Apparently, Ford approached him first back in '02, when Jac Nasser was shown the door, and Ghosn didn't bite then. He hasn't bitten now, either. We'll let you draw the conclusions.
