Canadian soldiers in Afghanistan are thanking the hell out of the Crown for replacing a fleet of 20-year-old Iltis jeeps with armored Mercedes G-Wagens. The old jeeps — based on a VW design — were phased out amid outrage over the loss of several soldiers to suicide bombers and land mines that made quick work of the flimsy vehicles. The armored G-Wagens, which cost $130,000 each, have already proved their value, saving a number of soldiers from serious injury after a recent attack.
