I live about 20 minutes from VAFB. The rocket launches are always awe inspiring to watch. The base use to do an open house every other year, open to the public, where one could walk around, check out the base, take photos with jets, climb through bombers, etc. They haven’t done that since 9/11. I’ve been to Ushuaia and can attest that the crosswinds are powerful. To get there I actually landed at Rio Gallegos and toured southern Patagonia through Argentina and Chile and back to Argentina. We crossed the Drake Channel in a rickety military cargo boat. Read more
