Rally is a beautiful sport—there’s something incredibly pure about just freakin’ sending it through quiet roads in the middle of nowhere without being able to count on, y’know, barriers or structure or run-offs. It’s exciting watching people keeping their car on the absolute limit. But sometimes, that just doesn’t work out.
Molly Taylor learned that firsthand at Rally Australia this Thursday.
In SS2, the Powers That Be noticed that one particular tree was going to pose a problem. They popped a hay bale right in front of that bad boy and called it good. Thankfully, both driver and co-driver were fine.
Running into the thing provided a pretty spectacular crash—and one that could have been a hell of a lot worse if the thing wasn’t there in the first place. But it’s definitely a reminder of what racing used to be like back in the 60s and why we upgraded that shit on permanent circuits.
