Demolition derbies have always been one of those events I always associate with massive, Malaise-era Detroit land-yachts. And for good reason— they're great at them. Massive acreages of hood, huge battering-ram bumpers, overhangs the size of decks. Maybe that's why seeing tiny 2L and under Euro cars do it is so alarming.
The Metric Demolition Derby rules seem to use an actual oval track instead of the American preferred huge ovoid arena, so it feels a bit more like a conventional race. A bit.
One interesting thing to not is how all the smashed cars start to take on a similar sort of look. I'd like to see that universal-smashed look used as the basis for some sort of show or custom car. Smooth out the wrinkly metal, clean up the lines, and I bet you'd end up with something interesting.
