BMW's new enlarged 6-series/coupified 5-series, the BMW Gran Coupe will officially cost $76,895 including destination charge. That's $16K more than a base Audi A7 and $4,500 more than a Mercedes CLS. This pretty face doesn't come cheap.
For your money you get a 315 horsepower, 3.0-liter twin-turbo straight-six shuffled through an eight-speed automatic transmission. That's enough to get this coupe-like sedan to 60 mph in 5.4 seconds, which is about as fast as a mid-‘90s Porsche 911.
Not that anyone really cares what's under the hood, or that this thing is rated at 30 mpg (according to European tests). Gran Coupe buyers will be laying down an extra 24 grand over a 5-series with the same engine. We doubt that anything other than looks and prestige will factor into that decision.
