1974 Volkswagen Thing

Welcome to Down On The Street, where we admire old vehicles found parked on the streets of the Island That Rust Forgot: Alameda, California. I've found quite a few interesting cars while making runs to Pagano's Hardware.

It seems that many Alamedans fire up the old survivor vehicle when it comes time to hit Pagano's— an Alameda institution going back about 10,000 years— for some home-repair supplies. Plenty of DOTS honorees were shot there, the last one being this '69 Valiant.

I'm unable to determine exact Thing model years, so I'm guessing this one is a '74. Can anyone point out year-specific features on this VW?
