Some cars, either through history or circumstance, have timeless designs. Take the Porsche 911, the Jeep Wrangler, the Ford Mustang (most of the time.) But some cars weren’t meant to be special or unique—yet years later their style still resonates anyway. What is the best “normal” car that still looks good?
I was driving home the other day and spotted a Saab 9-3 Aero from the early 2000s and I thought, man, that is still a sharp looking car. It had clean lines and just enough aggressiveness to let you know it was a bit different than the standard trim.
However, my favorite “timeless” car that wasn’t a sports car or some other exclusive machine has to be the third-generation Acura TL. Our man Andrew Collins has one, and while he says it’s nothing special, it certainly looks better than whatever has come from Acura’s styling department in many years. It’s hard to put your finger on what makes it a good looking car, but everything seems just right.
Of course the third-generation Acura TL didn’t set out to be some style exercise, and unfortunately, the subsequent generations probably pushed it a bit too far in the looks department. But that sharp Japanese sedan from 2004 to 2008 will go down in my book as one of Acura’s best.
A Lamborghini Miura will always be timeless, but what’s a mass-market car that still turns your head?
