I saw a Pontiac Torrent the other day, a vehicle that I literally haven’t thought about in years. And it’s not even old, nor is it rare, but yet it has somehow managed to become an irrelevant and invisible piece of the automotive timeline.
The Pontiac Torrent launched in 2006 as the successor to the most hideous car in recent history, the Aztek. Built on GM’s Theta platform, the new crossover was basically the Chevrolet Equinox with some revised styling, and though that may not sound enticing, it was a sharp looking little crossover.
After a few short years, the Torrent was axed shortly before bankrupt General Motors killed off the Pontiac brand. Still, in its four-year run, Pontiac made over 100,000 of these mid-size crossovers, and yet now, seven years later, it’s as if the vehicle never existed, having faded into the ether with nary a trace.
In fact, digging into the archives, it appears that Jalopnik hasn’t written about the Torrent since 2009, when the car was still in production! The young, but forgotten Torrent.
What are some other not-that-old and not-that-rare cars that history has forgotten?
