UK police have reportedly called a £365 fine and a 56-day driving ban for a young driver caught doing 154 mph on a major highway “disappointing.”

The 21-year-old Louie Howlett got laser’d at 154 mph on the A11 in Suffolk back in April. He was in a 70 mph zone. Only now is he getting his final judgement in court, the BBC and others report. The authorities are not happy about it.

Suffolk police said the sentence was “disappointing”.

Inspector David Giles, from the roads policing unit, said: “I don’t think it is enough at all. I’m really disappointed frankly.

“It’s not a real incentive to stick within the speed limit, in my opinion.”

Howlett pleaded guilty and was driving a Seat Leon Cupra at the time. For his part, he insisted he was sorry and “had learnt his lesson.”
