When news of the 2017 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 first hit the streets, the world rejoiced at its 640 horsepower rating, a huge improvement over the puny, sad and weak 580 HP in the old ZL1. But... what if there was more? What if the new ZL1 had just a bit more power to give? Friend, I’m here to tell you that it does.

Do you know how much power it will have?

Are you really ready for me to tell you?

Are you REALLY REALLY ready?

You’re not ready. If you think you’re ready, you’re not ready.

Okay fine, I will tell you anyway. The new Camaro ZL1 puts out... 650 HP and 650 lb-ft of torque. That’s right: six hundred and fifty horsepower. And a matching amount of torque.

That is deeply wonderful and good.

This news comes to us from the Camaro6 forum, which dutifully has the order guide for all 2017 model year Camaros in handy PDF format. The guide reveals the car’s 6.2-liter supercharged LT4 V8 puts out 10 more HP and lb-ft of torque than initially expected, and more than even the Cadillac CTS-V does with the same motor.

The ZL1's engine is now equal to the Corvette Z06's LT4 in power rating, though we’ll see if it suffers from that car’s notorious cooling problems. No word on pricing yet, but it’s anticipated around $60,000.

Sounds fine and dandy. Can’t wait to drive it!
