Well, Chevrolet decided to grace this evening with the 2017 Camaro ZL1. Its 6.2 liter V8 now comes with more supercharger and its (optional!) automatic transmission comes with two more speeds. More speeds, more better.

The new ZL1's Corvette Z06-sourced supercharged 6.2 liter spools a drool-worthy 640 horsepower and a mirrored 640 ft-lbs of torque mated to either a six-speed manual or all new ten-speed automatic of your choosing. That’s two more than the eight-speed you’ll find in the Camaro SS or Corvette, and four more than in the previous ZL1. Math!

We can expect the shiny new 10-speed auto in “eight new GM models” by 2018.

The ZL1 has that magnetic ride suspension, limited-slip differential, some carbon fiber work on the hood that acts as a heat extractor, and an updated “flow-tie” aerodynamic magic emblem in the grille. It’s said to be 200 pounds lighter than the previous car, with approximately 60 more horses and 80 more lb-ft of torque—which all sounds like a delicious recipe for motoring.

Chevy didn’t quote any 0 to 60 times or other such figures, but the fun will be figuring it out for ourselves. The new ZL1 will go on sale late this year, and we don’t yet have a price.
