The New Morgan Aero8 Is 376 Horsepower Masterpiece Of Style And Wood

Morgan's anniversary Aero comes with a 376 horsepower V8 from BMW, a revised chassis, a tasty mixture of wood and carbon fiber and a price that made it sell out until January in the first few hours of the Geneva Motor Show.

Morgans previous top of the range Aero, the Supersport was also super pricey, so the task this time was to make a car that's faster, even easier to customize but also more affordable. Which in this case translates to a hand-built sports car starting at around £60,000. And a hundred grand is not bad for what we're looking at here.

The Aero8 comes with the usual Mini/Lancia lamps and BMW power, but also a clam-shell boot enabling the hood to be stowed away. That's neat. You also have the option of a six-speed manual or a ZF auto box, and with 370 lb/ft on tap, both will take you to sixty two in 4.5 seconds.

Side pipes or a pair of rear exhausts? Carbon fiber bucket seats or something with a bit more padding? Toggle switches or a touchscreen in the middle? The list of options is longer than Morgan's waiting list, but whatever style you choose, the Aero8 is promised to be very rewarding to drive mostly thanks to an upgraded aluminum chassis with more torsional stiffness, a new KW suspension and a limited-slip differential thrown in for good measure.

Also, expect lots of wood. Everywhere.

Looks like a great weekend to me, every week.
