Suppose you are in the market for a million dollar supercar, but are underwhelmed at the current selections with their hybrid wizardry and electronic gizmos. You want something collectible, but allows you the opportunity to cheat death every time you clip an apex. You need a 1996 Porsche 993 GT2.

Currently up for auction by Gooding and Company with price estimating between $950,000 and $1,250,000, this is one of only 57 examples of the 993 GT2 road cars. This generation GT2 was a homologation special that allowed Porsche to compete in the BPR Global GT Endurance Series. It was based upon the all-wheel-drive 911 Turbo, but converted to two-wheel-drive. The motor was revised with an additional oil cooler to handle the increase the boost for an output of 430 horsepower. Of course the car also had weight reductions such as aluminum doors and trunk lid, in addition to a stripped out interior. Forged three-piece wheels and those fabulous fender flairs, make this 911 stand out from the crowd.

According to the listing, this car was one of 17 vehicles imported to Japan. Then it was later brought to the United States in 2014 by a collector in New York, were it was kept in a climate-controlled environment and driven sparingly. The car has 36,000 km (aprox. 22,000 miles) and has been approved for street use by the NHTSA under the Show and Display exemption.

Once the 911 Turbo was outfitted with standard all-wheel-drive it became the civilized supercar that you could drive everyday. For those looking for tail-happy thrills, Porsche made a series of GT2s that were a bit of a handful if you were not careful. For a highly skilled driver and a discerning Porsche collector, this 993 GT2 might be the ultimate dream car.
