It started as a run-of-the-mill 125cc scooter, but by the time a 31-year-old UK plumber had his way with it, it was a veritable school bus on two wheels โ€” 78-feet long, heavy and difficult to drive.

Builder Colin Furze is waiting for Guinness World Records to verify his record, which he completed in theory when he drove it over a mile along the Saltby Airfield in Grantham. Furze topped out at 35 mph, which as 78-foot-long scooters go, might as well be Mach 1.

The scooter, which sports a home-made aluminum frame, is Furze's second record-breaking scooter contraption. His first holds the speed record for fastest mobility scooter, at 72 mph.
