Why Buy A Used M3 When You Can Get A Sexy V12 Aston Martin Convertible?

It’s a common misconception that in the automotive world, entropy follows depreciation and vice versa. Sometimes, as is the case with this gorgeous Aston Martin DB9 Volante, well-preserved things can fall right into your lap, being just as desirable as when they were new. Except you’re paying a fraction of the original price. Win.


This 2006 Aston Martin DB9 Volante is a car for the supercar buyer that couldn’t care less about lap times, 0-60 sprints or at what triple-digit speed the car achieved before spinning off the carousel at the Nurburgring. This is the car for the person that wants to cruise along the coast, take in the scenery and enjoy the refined exhaust note of a smooth 6.0-liter V12. Power? There’s some of that. Comfort? There’s a lot of that, with enough of the good looks that you’d need in a car that is both understated and elegant, blending in with its surroundings like an exotic car chameleon. It’s all the upside of driving a well-sorted Ferrari with none of the risk that you’d be immediately targeted as a drug kingpin. At an asking price of $44k, it’s more than six figures off its initial cost.

This car has my favorite exterior and interior color combination for the newer Aston Martins, and it looks like the car is in great shape, as evidenced by the seller’s description:

This DB9 has been kept in a garage and covered since I have owned it. It is mechanically sound with a recent oil change. It has the midnight blue and camel color combination. It also has upgraded rear tail lights and Euro style license plate. A really nice feature is the custom plasma halo lights. Great for daytime driving to make the car stand out for approaching drivers. This car has been a joy to drive, but it’s time for me to down size. Some of the features:

Maintaining and repairing this car isn’t as pricey or complex as, say, a comparable Ferrari or Lamborghini, but you’d look, sound, and in most instances perform just as well or better than anything made in an Italian barn. It is an automatic, which is the right choice for this car, as it isn’t a flappy-paddle single clutch nightmare, it’s a regular 6-speed automatic that any wrench with a driveway and moderately clean garage can service. The car is the complete package, and though prices are relatively low for these cars, I’m not sure you can get more exotic car value than with a mid-to-late 2000s Aston. It’s worth it for the name alone.
