Carmakers these days get tons of heat from enthusiasts, who feel betrayed by the cars they see on dealers' lots. On which automaker would you stage a coup d'état, remake to your own specifications and build the cars you want?


In 1799 Napoleon Bonaparte staged a coup d'état on the French Directory, and set up the French Consulate of his own design. In the 1980s, corporate raiders swiped RJR Nabisco. Which car company would you make over in your own image? Not to be a downer, but don't forget that Napoleon's reign ended in Waterloo, and Nabisco's new owners parted the company out to pay the staggering debt they leveraged for the takeover.
