Car Design News is featuring a photo spread from Michelin's CSS Design Competition, held late last year. (What kind of publishing cycle is CDN on, anyway? Cat years?) Students from the College for Creative Studies were charged with designing an advanced, far-future wheel/tire and suspension combination based on Michelin's new run-flat system, as well as designing a vehicle on which to mount it. The designs are ok, though it's amazing how little designers can do with wheel design. They're all just variations on the hub-spoke wagonwheel archetype — how "far-future" is that?
