Highway signs are an essential part of the traffic infrastructure. They can also be unintentionally, but unavoidably, offensive or suggestive or plain ridiculous. We recently had weirdness, but now, on the day before the anniversary of the first adopt-a-highway sign, let's seek out awfulness: What's the worst highway sign in the world?
I moved back to suburban Detroit just as I was learning to drive, so the implicit bad-taste humor element of having a major thoroughfare named Big Beaver Road was not lost on myself or my equally adolescent brothers. I may have been concentrating a bit too much on traffic and directions while driving, though, because the even more implicitly explicit "Exit 69" element escaped me for quite a while. In retrospect, maybe the hormone overload was just blocking it out.
