Turning a wrench on a car you own can be one of the most rewarding experiences you’ve ever had, but in some instances it can be downright torturous. Whether it’s stripped head studs, brittle vacuum lines, or horrible placement of components, what’s the most frustrating car you’ve ever worked on?


I always joke about the Audi Allroad being the most unreliable car there is, but it’s not actually any more unreliable than any other car. The reason why it’s seen as a perpetual money pit is because the A6 platform on which it’s based is a goddamn pants crapping nightmare to work on.

I had an 2000 A6 2.7T a few years back and had to change the starter on it. Despite the part’s low $30 cost, the process took three entire days and it required me removing the front end of the car. It’s simply insane how cramped the working environment was. No wonder the previous owners simply neglected to do regular maintenance because shops would charge four figures just to look at it.
