Most vehicles improve over the course of their existence, benefiting from evolutionary tweaks in each revision. But some were great out of the gate. What's the best first-generation vehicle?

Give it to Sir Alec, he knocked it out of the park on the first pitch. There have been many Minis since the first car rolled out in 1959, but none have been so nimble, so attractive, and so downright mini. It was the bare minimum of what you needed and therefore the maximum of small car driving pleasure. Designed with a less-is-more ethos, every generation added more and therefore corrupted the original concept.
