The British Labour party massively failed in their attempt to attack the 1980s by selecting a great car in what was, honestly, a decade fraught with crap. Let's do better. What was the worst car from the 1980s?
Representing the worst-of-the-worst. Hmm...there's just so much to choose from. We guess we'd have to start with the Oldsmobuick diesels of the first half of the decade. Plenty of cars have killed storied names, a few have even killed entire brands, but has a car done more to completely defeat a form of propulsion than the GM diesels? The marketing of a more efficient form of transportation wasn't enough to overcome the poor engine performance and design (basically a converted GM gas V8), which caused them to constantly breakdown. Other than mileage, reliability is the biggest selling point and GM managed to screw it up completely, dooming diesel cars in the U.S. until recently. Throw the engines into otherwise unappealing cars like the Buick Century and you've got the vehicular equivalent of Mr. Mister.
Hey, remember the '80s? Unfortunately, you probably do. What was the worst car?
