Web-Based Remote Starter (Yes, for Cars)

Guidepoint, an aftermarket automotive theft recovery and convenience system, now lets users start their cars remotely — from the living room or from the Arctic Circle — using a Web-based interface. The system, which is like OnStar but includes theft-tracking functions also allows subscribers to unlock doors and (in some cases) honk the horn using any Web device, be it a laptop browser, cellphone or PDA. We could imagine this being handy for, say, warming up the car on cold days before commuting home, freaking the hell out of elderly neighbors on Saturdays and tricking indigenous peoples into thinking you're a god so you can take their gold. Well, two out of three.
