Got a smidge under $45,000 that's burning a hole in your pocket? Then Chevrolet has an Australian-born, rear-wheel-drive, V8-packing sedan for you.

GM announced today that MSRP on the 2014 Chevy SS will be $44,470. For all that, you get a re-badged Holden Commodore SS V with a 6.2-liter, 415-horsepower LS3 V8 and a six-speed automatic transmission with paddles. Stick shift enthusiasts need not apply, thanks.

But while it lacks a manual gearbox, the SS is fairly loaded with other goodies standard like automatic parking assist, a Bose stereo, HID lamps, a backup camera, and a color heads-up display. The only options are a sunroof and a full-sized spare tire.

At first I thought $45k seemed a bit steep for this thing, but that is a lot of standard equipment. And if you think of it as a poor man's BMW M3, it's a hell of a bargain — even if it is quite a bit pricier than its "predecessor" of sorts, the Pontiac G8 GXP.

What do we think, Jalops? Nice price or crack pipe for the Chevy SS?
