Hey everyone! Having a great Tuesday, I hope? Wonderful! Here’s a nutjob with a chainsaw threatening an entire family while children scream in the background and a woman yells in Québecois French.

No, this isn’t some offbeat Canadian knockoff of a David Lynch film. It’s real, and it’s horrifying. And yeah, if you were in that car, you’d be soiling yourself right about now.

As usually happens with stories like these, the whole thing could’ve been avoided. From all sides. I mean, especially the crazy guy with the chainsaw threatening an entire family, but partially by the adults in the car following the Chainsaw Guy. As the woman filming the video, Karine Cyr, told the CBC what happened, it actually sounds like this wasn’t just one-sided road rage:

Cyr said she and her family, who live in L’Épiphanie, Que., were on vacation. She was in the car with her husband, Alexandre Hermenier, who was driving, and their two children were in the back seat.

Cyr said the driver cut them off and was driving erratically, so her husband followed the vehicle to get the licence plate number and tell police where the man was going. They ended up on a dead-end road and Hermenier parked his car, blocking the other vehicle from leaving. Cyr said that’s when the driver got out of his car and threatened them with a chainsaw.

At this point, you don’t even need us to be all “PROTIP: Don’t follow a guy who threatens children with chainsaws and who also probably licks windows down a dead end street.” Cyr will do that for us:

Cyr said that, in hindsight, she would have handled the situation differently.

“Everyone will react differently, but I would like to say that if you see dangerous driving, do not follow the driver — the mistake that we made with two children in the back seat. We regret it tremendously. If it happens to you, pull over and just call police.”

Please, for the love of all that is holy, just call the cops.

Because holy crap.

Nutty Chainsaw Man will at the very least be charged with assault with a weapon, according to local cops, and further charges are a possibility.
