Turns out all those European car magazines and our staff psychic were wrong: the new 992 Porsche 911 will not use a transverse, two-stroke diesel V4 front-wheel drive layout after all. Instead, it’s a 911, it looks like a 911, it sounds like a 911, and it goes nuts on the Nürburgring the way a proper 911 should.


Sure, it doesn’t look that much different from the outgoing 991, but the new 992 is all-new under the skin, with more power, lighter weight, better efficiency and some form of electrification all expected, the latter probably a few model years down the line. And unlike Chevrolet, Porsche doesn’t seem like camouflage and disguises are worth bothering with anymore.

Here’s the video version of the spy shots we got last week. Take a look and see if you can spot anything interesting about the new 992. It may be evolution over revolution, but there’s no reason to believe it won’t continue to be one of the sharpest and best sports cars on the planet.
