As we near the end of 2013, now is the time when various publications announce their Car of the Year award. (Ours is still the 1990 Miata.) Sometimes we care about these awards, sometimes we don't. But we put stock into what Britain's Evo has to say.

That's because Evo's test pits what eight of the best performance cars in the world right now against one another to see who comes out on top. They chose the Aston Martin V12 Vantage S, Audi R8 V10 Plus, Mercedes SLS Black Series, Porsche 911 GT3, Alfa Romeo 4C, Ferrari F12 Berlinetta, Porsche Cayman S and Mini John Cooper Works GP for their big test.

Although I'd like to see a few other cars in there as well — no Corvette Stingray or Nissan GT-R, guys? Maybe they didn't make an earlier cut — it's a stellar lineup. I won't tell you who comes in first, but their choice is so brilliant it's hard to argue with. If you don't do anything else today, listen to the winner at the end of this video. It's pure auditory porn.

I know I wouldn't kick any of these cars out of my garage.
