Let’s just call this car a custom build. It was customized by speed.
During the first practice for this weekend’s WeatherTech Sports Car Championship race at Virginia International Raceway, the roof of the No. 25 BMW Team RLL M6 GTLM flew right off in the esses, red flagging the session for clean-up.
Now that is a real debris flag.
Fortunately, driver Dirk Werner was able to bring the car back in safely, and no other parts were damaged when the roof and back window blew off of the car.
Werner’s teammate Bill Auberlen could think of only one thing when he saw the car opened up like a tin can. He told IMSA Radio’s Shea Adam, as quoted by NBC Sports:
I’m telling you… I’m dying to ask if it was cooler inside the cockpit!
Priorities, man. Priorities. Race cars get hot.
