Volkswagen released press info and photos of its 2006 Jetta GLI. The version gets a raft of sporty accoutrements, from the tip of its black honeycomb mesh grille to rear GLI badge on the passenger side. Interior enhancements include metal-alloy pedals and trim, special seat fabric, and a three-spoke, leather-wrapped multifunction steering wheel with audio and telephone controls. Extending out from the swank helm are shift paddles that work the optional DSG automatic transmission; 18" alloys are optional too. Two options packages — onw with a power sunroof and satellite radio (XM or Sirius) and the second with Climatronic dual-zone automatic climate control, top-level front sport seats with leather seating surfaces, heated front seats, and heated windshield washer nozzles — will be available. No pricing info has been released, but in 2005, the GLI edition added around $6,000 to the Jetta's base price. [Update: The GLI will get VW's 2.0-liter turbo four, producing 200hp (@5,500 to 6,000rpm) and 207 lbs./ft of torque (@1,800 to 4,700rpm). With standard six-speed manual transmission, VW says the new GLI accelerates from zero to 60 in 6.7 seconds.]
