Volkswagen's high-performance Golf R32 hot hatchback was such a surprise hit, the company couldn't keep potential buyers supplied — even in the hatch-unfriendly US. That's probably because the R32 offered Porsche 911 fun at less than half the price. Now, the company is launching a new generation of the Most Fastest Golf, which it will unveil at the Frankfurt show.
The Golf V R32 gets a 10-click power upgrade to 250 hp from the 3.2-liter V6, and, in addition to standard six-speed manual, it can be ordered with optional dual clutch gearbox (DSG), which reportedly shaves zero-to-62 (100km/h) time to 6.2 seconds, compared to 6.5 seconds for even the most skilled manual jockey. VW's 4Motion all-wheel-drive is standard, as are a set of 20-spoke 18-inch light-alloy wheels are also standard.
