So far, a number of people have written regarding yesterday's challenge, but only a few have nominated candidates that may well be uglier than the Aztek. Sure, the current Toyota Celica is ugly, but we weren't big on the previous generation, either. As for older Land Rovers and Gel ndewagens, the point of the cars wasn't really to make much of a styling statement. The Aztek was. And as for the fellow who wrote in nominating the '62 Dart? The Dart was cool. It was ugly, but it was cool. The Aztek on the other hand was inspired by a cool device, but the execution blows whatever cool-by-assocition there is. More after the jump.

David writes: "I remember when the Aztek was a concept. The stylists were inspired by the 'versitility of the Swiss Army knife' and designed the Aztek as its visual metaphor. Take your average multi-tool-blade Swiss Army knife and partially open every tool on the top side simultaneously. Lay the knife on its back and imagine tires at the corners. Can you see an Aztek in there now?"
As for the rest of y'all, a couple of you have sent in some brilliant stuff, and we'll give you a sneak peak at some of the contenders tomorrow. In the meantime, keep those entries coming. And remember, the goal isn't to come up with a car that's merely ugly. Nor is it the idea to nominate a vehicle that's not as ugly. Not even almost as ugly. We're trying to find vehicles that are truly uglier than the Pontiac Aztek.
