The Lowari Top is a 10,000-ft high pass in northwest Pakistan and the road that crosses it between Chitral and Dir is one of the most dangerous in the world. Despite the danger, trucks are the only way to move goods in this part of the world.
While landslides, avalanches, treacherous switchbacks, and great distances make trucking here a deadly occupation, there are always men willing to wrestle the colorful, highly decorated trucks along the many corners up to the Lowari—and on the even more dangerous way down. This 25-minute Al Jazeera feature, part of their Risking it all series, presents in terrifying detail the life of a Pakistani trucker in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.
Up at the Lowari, when the road is gone, you stop the truck and rebuild it yourself.
