In a particularly chilling story, a Utah truck driver faces federal charges after law enforcement discovered he was kidnapping women and keeping them as sex slaves, beating them and even shaving down their teeth.
According to The Associated Press, 54-year-old Timothy Jay Vafeades appeared in court Wednesday in North Dakota facing charges that included kidnapping and possession of child pornography.
In November, he was arrested with a 19-year-old girl who was his relative. According to an arrest warrant, the girl left Florida to work Vafeades on the "Twilight Express," the name for his truck. After she said she wanted to return home, Vafeades allegedly strangled her and kept her for six months, traveling to various states. He also allegedly forced her to have sex more than 100 times in that period.
Another woman who has now come forward says she was Vafeades' "sex slave" for three months in 2012, and was forced to change her hair and marry him, as well as having him shave her teeth with a drill.
If convicted, Vafeades faces a life sentence in prison.
