A Japanese News Agency is reporting that Toyota, riding high on huge sales growth in Russia, plans to build an assembly plant there by 2008. Toyota, now the top foreign automaker in Russia, will be the first Japanese OEM in that country to produce vehicles locally.
The plant, which will reportedly produce vehicles aimed at Russia's burgeoning middle class, such as the Camry and Corolla, will assemble approximately 15,000 vehicles per year.
