Toyota, in its most high-profile embarassment since the "Oh, What a Feeling" knee-replacement scandal of 1978, is initiating its largest US recall ever. The company is notifying owners of 4Runners, small pickups (full disclosure: us) and T-100s from model years 1989 through 1996 of a steering-related flaw could cause a loss of control. The action involves the steering relay rods on close to 375,000 4Runners, 535,000 small pickups and 68,000 T-100s, which the company will inspect and replace at its own cost. No injuries related to the flaw have been reported, though that guy from the commercials doesn't seem to have worked in 25 years.
