The Americanized version of Top Gear is carrying over the "Star In A Reasonably-Priced Car" segment as we previously reported, and we've just learned from our source that the star car in question is the Kia Rio. Again. UPDATE.
"Star in a reasonably-priced car," the segment the BBC's hit automotive show Top Gear uses to be topically relevant to a non-automotive audience, is when they put ordinary celebrities through the Top Gear Test Track to test their skill or, in the case of Tom Cruise, their willingness to kill themselves in a cheap car. For the U.K. version the car's been a Suzuki Liana, Chevrolet Lacetti, and Kia Cee'd.
Now, Green Eggs and Ham (the same source who provided us with information on Top Gear USA carrying over The Stig) tells us that the American reasonably-priced car will be the Kia Rio.
This isn't so much of a shock because it's the same car they used in the shelved NBC version of two years ago. It's definitely reasonably priced, but we're not sure if it can keep up with the Euro C'eed.
Here's hoping we get to see someone better than a Gossip Girl cast member flogging it around the rumored El Toro test track.
Update: Sources at BBC Productions/History confirm that the Kia Rio is in the running for the reasonably priced car and was recently tested, but they say they're also evaluating other cars for the position.
