Thumbing His Nose At Marshal Tito In a Hot-Wired 911: The Belgrade Phantom!

Back in '79, when Zastava was just gearing up to build the car we call the Yugo, residents of Belgrade were treated to the drama of a dude in a stolen 911 leading the cops on nightly chases.

The Belgrade Phantom, whose real name was Vlada Vasiljevic, took his hot 911 for a few drifty laps around a busy square in downtown Belgrade, night after night. As his fame grew, so did the crowds that waited for his appearances. The cops, stuck with Communist-grade machinery, no doubt looked pretty foolish as they sputtered after the Porsche. Tipster Jon has informed us that a documentary has been made about the Phantom; here's an excerpt.
