This Is Why Lane Splitting Can Be So Damn Dangerous

It doesn't matter who you are. Biker, driver, whatever, everybody's got an opinion on that thing that motorcycles do when they go in between the cars in traffic. It's called "lane-splitting," and when it goes wrong, it goes really wrong.

There's no need to skip ahead at all in this video as the action is all up front. Basically what happens is the guy on the orange motorcycle in front has some sort of momentary lapse, and as he begins to wobble he smacks into the back of a pickup truck. That's bad enough in its own right, but then falls right towards the enormous tires of an 18-wheeler.

Luckily the hapless rider manages to fall behind the tires instead of in front of them, and the truck comes to a stop before it runs him over. So, good news, yay.

I'm not really pro- or anti-lane splitting, to be honest. It has its advantages and disadvantages. But like with anything else, when done improperly it can go horribly wrong, very quickly.
