You know how Volkswagen recently had Tanner Foust hoon a 2015 GTI covered in GoPros? That was cool, but do you know what's cooler? Justin Bell thrashing a 1996 McLaren F1 GTR at Mid-Ohio, with some GoPros attached.
We can now live vicariously through Bell, who placed 3rd at the 1995 Le Mans in an F1 GTR, piloting one of the most spectacular race cars of the last 20 years. You can watch Bell rush through the straightaway, listening to the fantastic BMW-built S70 V12 running up to redline in 5th gear.
GoPro mounted cameras all over the car, including one that shows Bell's feet as he heel-toes, and one of his face to show his unfazed concentration. The cameras also reveal some interesting details of the F1 GTR, like the indicator stalk, which seems to be from an '80s BMW. You can hear Bell groan as he wrestles with the car through the corners, which is something I may or may not also do when I'm karting.
I only wish GoPro would make an edit of this just from the driver's point-of-view, so us sitting at our computers can really see what it's like to drive an F1 GTR, but I'm not complaining.
I'll let Bell sum up the experience of driving the 600 hp F1 GTR, because he certainly does it better than I ever could:
"It can still put lead in your pencil, two decades later. Bloody hell."
