This Is The 944 That All 944s Wish They Could Be

The totally bonkers Aussies at Evolution Custom Industries have entered into the Evo- and GT-R-laden universe of the World Time Attack Challenge with...a Porsche 944 Turbo. Not just any 944, but a heavily modified one that sounds like God ate ghost chiles for lunch.

Welcome to Onboard of the Week, a new feature where we spend that pesky time between race weekends looking at awesome footage from inside the car.

This particular 944 was competing at Wakefield Park in the Top Ten Shootout for the World Time Attack Challenge. They get one lap—make or break—to get it right.

Oh, and did we mention that it was 2,550 lbs with 500+ hp? The driver, Paul McKinnon, is clearly sawing at the wheel trying to force the car to stay on the racing line at the very limits of its grip, but somehow does it.

Speedhunters previously featured this insane build in a photoset earlier this year in case you're interested in all of the particulars of how it goes so fast. It's nice to see a thirty-year-old chassis beating up on far more modern machinery.
