The youngest cars taking part in these races are from the mid-seventies. Vintage auto racing is not about power, prize money or champagne. It's about adrenalin and the good old fashioned tactical approach. There are no ECUs to tweak.
I can't tell you how difficult it is to find a BMW 02 where I live. And that's only 422 miles from Munich, where they were all built. It's not about getting a good deal anymore, it's more like finding one at any price. E21s are the way to go, but still, damn you California!
VARA was founded in 1973 and has become the largest vintage racing organization on the West Coast. It's a good community with car nuts working hard to keep BMWs, Datsuns, Alfas and whatever rare beasts you can image scream proudly on the track.
My car is only 28. I guess I'll need to get an older one.
