The Takata airbag recall has included over 16 million cars globally and 4.3 million in the U.S., and the latest documents filed to NHTSA include GM vehicles for the first time.

The regional recall originally included nine automakers in the U.S., but that's been expanded to include GM products. There's no word on how many of the General's wares could be affected by the recall. GM declined to comment to Reuters and NHTSA doesn't comment on ongoing investigations.

Takata told reporters today that it's working to get new inflator kits to automakers, which have requested 1.47 million kits to be produced over the next six months, all for affected vehicles in the U.S.
