The Porsche Carrera GT Is Still My Hero Car

I can’t believe there are only 10 short years between the Porsche Carrera GT and the Porsche 918 Spyder. The two cars really couldn’t be any more different. They were launched at the peak of their respective super- and hypercar eras, and everything about them reflects that.

The Carrera GT was extremely analogue. It had a naturally aspirated V10 engine (sourced from an abandoned racecar) and a manual gearbox fitted with a wood-topped shifter. They used to stall pretty aggressively. The 918 Spyder uses an advanced hybrid system and a Porsche PDK gearbox. Stalling in this is a little more difficult.

Evo’s Dickie Meaden got the opportunity to take a Carrera GT out for some fun before it will be auctioned off next month. Take a look at the video.

Goddammit does that car sound good.
