The New Nascar Ford Fusion Is Hillbilly Hotness

It's been nearly half a year since we first got a Nascar-ection from the new Ford Fusion stock car. This week, we got a first look at a real racecar version via Wood Brothers. It's still just a clay model, but damn, that's hotter than Gretchen Wilson's Budweiser dimples.

The vintage-style paint scheme will debut at the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway this weekend, following a debut at Roush Fenway Fan Day in Concord, NC this Thursday.

The vintage Motorcraft livery — developed at the Ford design studio — recalls the classic Daytona 500 livery of 1976, when David Pearson defeated King Richard Petty. That same year "The White Knight" by Cledus Maggard and The Citizen's Band topped the country charts. Oh, you think that's a coincidence? Ok, it is.

Still, the new look is a step in a positive direction, a step that other teams and manufacturers will soon follow. It's part of an effort to bring more stockness to stock-car racing, and hopefully more fans interested in cars, not just drivers. (Hat tip to Porsche 9146!)
