The New Jersey Yacht Explosion Is Probably A Hoax

The U.S. Coast Guard rushed to rescue 21 survivors from the motor yacht Blind Date this afternoon after receiving reports that it had exploded and sunk 17 miles due east of Sandy Hook, N.J.

But after the story showed up in several reputable news outlets, other slightly less reputable sources began to question that such an event had actually occurred. The story doesn't hold water.

Although the distress call said that all 21 on board the boat had escaped a watery grave — seven with injuries — the Coast Guard has has yet to find any life rafts. That despite the fact that they've dispatched several marine units and have air support from two NYPD helicopters.
