This is serious wrought iron, even more serious for the village of Dédestapolcsány in northeast Hungary, an area known for its selective distribution of wealth. The car lovingly depicted in vertical superleggera appears to be a strange mixture of BMW and Buick (or possibly Maserati), with cracks on its windows paying accidental homage to the Sig runes known from recent European history.
The gate was photographed by a couple making their way along Hungary’s magnificent National Blue Trail, a 700-mile footpath which meanders diagonally across Hungary’s most scenic hills and forests. Dédestapolcsány, a community which dates back to the 13th century, is towards the northeastern terminus of the trail.
