All jokes about the Infiniti Q50 Eau Rouge's press release beating-around-the-bush aside, the concept is a legitimately beautiful expression of the Red Bull race car in sedan form. It also has the best paint in Detroit.
Walking by the Infiniti stand after the press conference this morning I couldn't help but note how darkly dazzling the paint was. The almost chiaroscuro 'rouge' coloring was a nice balm for my corneas, which were burning from the nerve-blistering yellows and screaming tangerines of the show floor. Even better, the car's usually bright metal bits were replaced by a deeper chrome that somehow made it seem richer.
I asked one of Infiniti's press hawks about the effect and he explained they started with a silver car and applied more than 20 tinted clearcoats to arrive at the color you see in photos.
If you get a chance to see it, stop and admire, then beg your Infiniti dealer to beg Infiniti to build it just like this.
