These images, snapped inside the exclusion zone surrounding the Fukushima Nuclear Power plant nine months after the earthquake, are as close as we're likely to get to the end of the world. At least until December next year. Destroyed vehicles litter the landscape, proving obstacles for the few remaining holdouts and cleanup workers.
The Fukushima Exclusion Zone was put into effect following the nuclear plant's radiation leak. Japan's government has stated that the amount of radioactive pollution was just 1/10th that released by Chernobyl, but evacuated an area about 30 kilometers wide surrounding the plant. 88,000 residents lived in the evacuation zone, many of whom now reside in temporary shelters nearby.
Its estimated that most of the zone will remain uninhabitable for at least three decades. Leaving the area - larger than New York City - frozen in time. Click through the gallery to view it.
