In creating his Omkara art car, Indian artist, Raj was considering an automotive aesthetic higher than commuting to a dead-end job in a low-slung office park. Raj considers the Omkara — a reference from the holy Hindu Bhagwad Gita text, meaning "the vehicle to cross the ocean of life" — a metaphor for the elements of mortality: creation, preservation and destruction. Though Raj had planned to drive the car from the United Arab Emirates to India, the Omkara, having been danced upon by two drunk laborers, now sits rusting with a caved-in roof, deep into the "destruction" stage.
